From 1 April 2025, all referrals for adult ADHD assessments, diagnosis, prescribing and titration (the process that introduces your body to medication safely and establishes an effective dosage), as well as autism assessments, fall under Right to Choose. This means you, as the patient, have the right to choose any provider that has an NHS contract. It is important that you pick a provider that can do Shared Care with the NHS, so please check this before choosing.
Step 1
The first step is for you to choose a provider. We recommend looking at the ADHD UK webpage about Right to Choose at Right to Choose - ADHD UK. This gives a lot of information on the different providers, including waiting times.
The local NHS ICB has evaluated certain providers and encourages you to use one of these, as they are accredited and provide what they have assessed as a good service:
- Berkeley Psychiatrists
- College Health
- Innovate ADHD
- Mentalwell
- Modality LLP
- RNT Mental Health Solutions
The following also provide autism services as well as ADHD:
- The Owl Centre
- Psicon
- Sinclair-Strong
- Insight Diagnostics
Sinclair-Strong is also commissioned to deliver diagnostic assessment and treatment services for those with complex needs, including those who have intellectual disabilities and/or co-occurring moderate to severe mental health conditions.
Step 2
Once you have chosen your preferred provider, please complete the paperwork from their website with as much detail as you and your family can provide.
Step 3
Bring it into the GP surgery and the GP will review it and either sign and send it off, or speak to you about the referral.
