Closure of Joydens Wood Medical Centre
Posted on 31 Mar 2020
Patients at the Summerhouse Surgery end of our patch will probably be aware, that in early December, the Joydens Wood Medical Centre closed at very short notice. Since the initial actions were taken, there has been a flurry of activity, as a result of which we took on the patient list as of the 10th December.
It would be inappropriate for comment to be made on what happened or why, but what can be stated is that Joydens Wood Medical Centre will not be reopening.
Downs Way have been asked by the CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) to take on all the patients of Joydens Wood Medical Practice and to provide them with a service. Obviously, we don’t have spare capacity to take on 2800 extra patients overnight – so we have had to have some assistance from the GP Federation, to increase capacity quickly in the short term, whilst we devise a longer term plan. There was a backlog of outstanding work that came with the patients, which we are trying to work through and resolve as soon as possible – some of this has been hampered by access to the technology – we are having to run both clinical systems side by side (so doing everything twice effectively) until the databases get merged, which will probably be sometime in February.
So please bear with us – we are trying to provide an equitable service to all our patients and to stabilise things for everyone as soon as possible. For the time being, we can only see Joydens Wood patients at Summerhouse, once the databases are merged we will be able to see across our sites as is the current case for existing Summerhouse patients. We now have a plan in place, using existing doctors who are known to us to assist us and things are expected to head towards a “normal” service quite quickly in the New Year.
In the meantime, the practice wish you all, whether new to us or have been with us for many years, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
